About a year and a half ago Erv Sauer of St. Anna and his three daughters, Mary Beth Sauer, Vicky Sauer, and Kelly (Sauer) Koziol, stumbled onto a piece of property just a few miles outside of Albany that they fell in love with. This property encompassed 116 acres of almost untouched woods, three beautiful small lakes, and wildlife galore. After much discussion and soul searching, they decided to purchase the property. The only catch was that it included a 30 year old, 6400 square foot house that needed a lot of TLC. They decided that in order to maximize their own enjoyment of the property and have the ability to share it with others, they would turn it into Whispering Acres Retreat. After major renovations to the inside and outside of the property, Whispering Acres Retreat opened in January of 2010. While the primary focus of the retreat is to provide a gathering space for scrapbookers, it is also a beautiful location for spiritual retreats, small business gatherings or just a relaxing getaway. The house offers four bedrooms and three bathrooms as well as three large gathering spaces and a large remodeled kitchen. They also invite their guests to explore the walking paths around the property, or to bring their bikes to utilize the Lake Wobegon Trail which is only a mile away. The three sisters have been pleasantly surprised with how busy they have been during their first five months of operation. Their guests have included multiple scrapbooking groups, ladies weekends and a couple of staff retreats. They look forward to providing an enjoyable, relaxing and stress free escape from everyday life.
